At FITS, we always do things that are proven to work based on scientific research. That being said, we want to be able to provide support for Canadian research that can benefit the people and especially youth, of Canada.
The School of Kinesiology and Health Science at York University is collecting some data for a research project on positive youth development through sport. Specifically, the project focuses on how organized sport programs can promote positive youth development among adolescents. It is a 3-year project funded by Sport Canada through SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada), and has been approved by York University’s Ethics Review Board.
Involvement would require athletes to complete a brief two-page questionnaire that assesses some of their developmental experiences in their sport program. Of course, athletes would be under no obligation to participate, and all information would be kept confidential.
