Optojump and Optogait is an optical measurement system based LEDS housed in two parallel bars – one bar transmits information while the other bar receives information. This effectively makes the ground between the two parallel bars an instrument to evaluate human movement. It is highly accurate with resolution of 1/1000 of a second, which is synchronized with video motion capture that feeds into dedicated software to provide amazing data in real time, such as:
- Power
- Displacement
- Rhythm and Symmetry
- Balance
- Speed
- Acceleration
- Ground Contact time – important to evaluate type of stretch shortening cycle
- Reactive Strength Index
- Stiffness
Optojump and Optogait combines video motion capture
The synchronized data capture with motion capture is invaluable for us. We’re able to evaluate how the body is producing the real time data to help us prevent injuries, manage injuries and aid in performance. Best of all this information is stored in our database allowing us to analyze and compare the results to:
- Other athletes
- An individual at different points in time. This is valuable particular in return to play protocols and to evaluate program progress.
Applications for Optojump and Optogait technology at FITS
What specifically does this mean for our athletes and our patients? Based on the data synchronized with video motion capture were able to:
- Examine leg symmetry during hopping, change in direction, gait, sprinting, acceleration etc.
- Provide real time feedback for our athletes and patients
- Ensure that an athlete is performing an exercise within set ground contact parameters which is vital to properly train each type of stretch-shortening cycle – Fast and Slow
- Examine motor coordination and timing
- Identify movement dysfunctions
