Movement Development begins with the understanding that over 90 percent of all musculoskeletal injuries are related to how we move – especially chronic overuse injuries. This means knee pain, shoulder pain, low back pain, etc. How we move determines the loads that are placed on our bodies. If we move well the loads are directed to structures that can tolerate the load. If we move poorly, loads are placed on structures not designed for that task. This combined with the HUGE influence movement has on sport performance has spawned our approach to Movement Development.
Built on scientific evidence and practical application in the fields of:
- motor skill acquisition
- musculoskeletal medicine,
- development neurology,
- physiological development,
- education and
- psychology of the growth mindset
we BUILD BETTER ATHLETES.
Movement Development System – Our Approach to Prevent Injuries and Enhance Perfrmance
We use a systematic approach based on scientific evidence and our FITS Metrics that first aims to develop key movement qualities that we call our Foundation Series. This series involves establishing:
- awareness of our bodies in space as a prerequisite of motor control
- mobility of our entire body so that we have the range of motion for full movement expression
- system stability which involves motor control of key areas in our body so we are move without dysfunction
- foundation movement series – establish ideal movements in hinge, squat, lunge, push, press
- foundation speed series – develop sound land, jump, hop, run, skip, accelerate, change direction, sprint technique
Upon completion of the Foundation series athletes are now prepared for Performance Lifting – where they will be exposed to many strategies that are systematically designed to progressively improve their performance.
At FITS we take great pride in our Movement Development approach. We are constantly researching and refining our approach to reflect best practice. No stone is left unturned, but before all this we must build a solid foundation – we build deep so we can build high.
